Summer Term

Important Date: Sports Day is the 29th June!

On the 20th April, Year 5 girls were invited to a Football Festival put on by the University of Hertfordshire. It’s always a brilliant day run by experienced coaches – the girls had a wonderful time.

On the 26th April, 10 children from Year 5 participated in a Handball Festival at Onslow St Audrey’s School. It’s a newer sport for us and Mr Willis was incredibly pleased by the outcome! He said that they were a real tribute to their schools and the sportsmanship was absolutely brilliant! They then continued on to a competition at Monks Walk Secondary School and, again, did our school proud. Great sportsmanship everyone!

On May 2nd, 12 children from Year 4 participated in the Onslow St Audrey’s School Family Mini-Red Tennis competition at the Hatfield Leisure Centre. The children did really well with one of the three teams going through to the next round. This took place the following week at Sir Frederic Osborne where our team placed third in the partnership! Well done Year 4!

On the 9th of May, We hosted our Onslow Family Year 5/6 hockey competition. We put in a Year 5 and a Year 6 team. The Year 5 team placed first in their pool and the Year 6 team tied for first (with Green Lanes) in theirs. Unfortunately, this led to a shoot out where Green Lanes triumphed. However, that does mean that our Year 5 team will go through to the Welwyn/Hatfield Partnership Finals just before half term. Good luck Year 5!

Spring Term

This term has seen a few successes for Oak View in the sports department. On 31st January, 19 of our Year 5 and 6 pupils competed in the Onslow St Audrey’s Family Sports Hall Athletics competition. The girl’s team came in second place to Green Lanes and our Boys’ team placed first! This took us through to the Welwyn/Hatfield Partnership finals where our Boy’s team, once again, placed first. This takes us forward to the District level competition at Oaklands College in the Summer Term.

On 19th February, 10 girls from Years 5 and 6 participated in a Girl’s Football Competition at De Havilland and came in FIRST place for the second time this year! Well done girls! Our year five girls are currently working with coaches from the University of Hertfordshire on their football training.

Mrs Wombwell’s KS1 gymnastics team competed at Gosling Sports Centre on the 28th of February and did a brilliant job – they came in fourth place overall!

Our Year 4 children have been working incredibly hard at their badminton skills and are due a friendly competition at the Leisure Centre against other schools in our Family Partnership. Good luck Year 4s!

The Year 5 and 6 Football team has had a great season as well (it’s beginning to wrap up now). The boys and girls have trained really hard and have participated in 7 match-es so far this year. We’ve had a few wins and a few losses, but it has been a fantastic experience for the children learning to work together as a team efficiently. We have one more match coming up next week and a tournament on the last day of term.

This academic year, Oak View has decided to participate in the Family Football League alongside Birchwood Avenue, Countess Anne, De Havilland, Green Lanes, The Ryde, St Mary’s and St Philip Howard. Please watch this space for the upcoming fixtures dates. The team has worked well together during training and matches run by Mr Crease.

Overall, our team played incredibly well together this season. We saw a total of 4 wins and 3 losses. Well done to the boys and girls who came out each week to practise.

At the end of the Spring Term, Year 6 children participated in a Football tournament at Monks Walk School during a torrential storm and they rose to the occasion coming in second place in our pool. Unfortunately, this meant we didn’t move forward, but the children did incredibly well and worked together as a team.

Autumn Term

In October, we had our Year 5/6 rugby team do fantastically well during a festival at Onslow St Audrey’s.

Our girl’s football team went on to win gold at the tournament at De Havilland Primary in November.

Our Year 5/6 basketball team did amazingly well at our family competition (coming in second) and went through to the Welwyn Hatfield Finals where we came in 5th.

Our speedstackers in Year 4 have done incredibly well this year, practising with Mrs Oakaby – Wright and Mrs Davis. They received second place at our family tournament which took place at Oak View in November.

Years 3 and 4 had been training for our turbo cricket competition with our school coaches and Mr Willis and worked incredibly hard at the Welwyn/Hatfield competition.

Finally, we had a good turnout for our Badminton club and sent 6 children to participate in a competition at the Hatfield Leisure Centre.

Coming up in the Spring term, we have Indoor Athletics as well as badminton for year 4 and gymnastics for Year 2 as well as a continuation of the football league.

Year 4 Tag Rugby Festival

On Wednesday 20th September, a number of children from Year 4 Matisse and Kandinsky classes took part in a Tag Rugby Festival at the Welwyn Garden City Rugby Club. The children did an amazing job after only 2 practise sessions at school. They took part in a few small coached activities then played 3 games, winning two and drawing one. Amazing work Year 4! Keep it up!
